The National Consortium for Creative Placemaking
The National Consortium for Creative Placemaking welcomed a new board member this month. Colleen Finnegan Kahl, a theater arts educator, entrepreneur, consultant and community engagement Leader took part in her first meeting on Thursday, January 17.
“As an individual personally and professionally committed to developing opportunities for artists, I could not be more excited about this appointment," Kahl said. "I look forward to working with the board on innovative and impactful ways we can harness creative power to build communities that engage and uplift local residents. “
Kahl has a well-rounded theatrical skillset honed through her work as a professional actress, stage manager, producer and educator in both the NYC and regional theatrical markets. The Actors Connection in New York City named her president in the summer of 2018. The 27-year-old continuing education company runs classes and events for actors in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Atlanta.
Kahl gained experience in creative placemaking through working for NCCP Board Chairman Richard Bryant on the curation of the Rahway Arts District and the construction of the Hamilton Stage for the Performing Arts. She also consulted on the development of a teen center and youth advisory committee for a large New Jersey municipality using creative engagement methods and hands-on community outreach.
In recent years, Kahl has built theatrical and creative arts programming for more than 15 schools and community organizations. In 2017, her company, Enspirited Projects, was nominated as one of the top three innovative companies for work in arts education and self-esteem along the Jersey Shore. Earlier this year, she was honored as a nominee for the Russ Berrie Making a Difference Award at Ramapo College for her impact on aspiring young performers.
Alongside her theatrical endeavors, Kahl developed a patented jewelry product, launched a greeting card line, and is consulting on an emerging nutraceuticals company based in Florida. She loves her animals and husband and lives at the Jersey Shore-- worth the price of being a member of the bridge-and-tunnel crowd.
